What Motivates Me to Run for Mayor of Abbeville
My vision for Abbeville is one of rebirth and growth through hard work and inclusion. A community where we can sit on our porches and children can play safely in our yards again. Where young adults want to live, work and raise their families, and they have opportunities to do so.
My dedication to community was passed on to me from my grandfather, the late N.R. Broussard. He never knew a stranger, and he taught me to think on my feet, be open for opportunities and that EVERYONE is family. I cherished learning from him for the past 20 years, and I am ready to take the knowledge and work ethic he instilled in me and apply it to our community.
I have a deep love for our city. I see the struggles and challenges, but I also see opportunity. It is time we take an honest look at our problems, set goals, roll up our sleeves, and work through them together.
I believe in long term strategic planning. We need to define where we want Abbeville to be in 10 years and set goals on how we are going to get there. It will take cooperation and perseverance. We need someone who can think outside the box and bring new energy to the table. I am that leader, and I am ready to devote my full attention to our community.
I come from a business family, and I have been a member of our business community for over 20 years. I understand the struggles of small business. I am the only mayoral candidate that has had to make payroll after being shut down for weeks due to storms and flooding. I understand the importance of improving drainage and the detrimental impacts flooding has on businesses and residents. I know the time, passion, and financial commitment it takes to open a business. I have worked 20-hour days and given everything I have to a business and had it fail, not because of mismanagement, but because of economic recession and weather events. I know what it takes to get back up and keep going after closing a business you love.
I am the only candidate that understands the reality of the struggles of businesses in our community. I know that more businesses fail than succeed, and I have a fire inside me to help our small businesses that are struggling to keep their doors open. I am also the only candidate that has navigated the web of red tape it takes to start a business firsthand and felt the frustration of inefficient government procedure. I will use my knowledge and experiences to cultivate a more business friendly environment and take an active approach in recruiting new businesses for our area to provide more local opportunities.
I also believe the government alone cannot solve our problems, to fix the issues we have in Abbeville, we need our entire community to work together. We all must be active participants in the solutions and agents for change. We all must take responsibility for our own complacency and strive to do better. If elected, I promise to continue to work hard with you, help lift you up when you need, and always put our community first. If we truly want to change our community, we first have to be the change we want to see.
Looking ahead, the political climate of Abbeville is changing. It is time for the next generation, my generation, to step up and take responsibility for bringing our community forward. I am ready to build on the work of those before us and lead us into the future. We cannot afford to wait four more years to begin making progress. We need to act now. If you elect me as your next Mayor, I promise to be an agent for change and bring new energy and vision to our community. I will work to strengthen our community through compassion and outreach. A vote for me is a vote for our future.
I humbly and respectfully ask you to vote for me, Roslyn White, #9, this Saturday, March 26, 2022, to be YOUR Mayor. I am committed to our community and dedicated to progress, but I need your support to make a difference.
