Roads Update

My focus in my first four years on council has been streets and drainage. In addition to our continual effort to improve sidewalks, by my request we have successfully overlaid Alan Lane, Louis Dr., Nugier St., N Hawthorne St.,  N East St., Cypress St. and Hollingsworth Drive. We are currently working on repairs to part of Graceland and have submitted a request for additional improvements through the Capital Outlay Program.

Parks Update

The city was able to complete two new tennis courts and build a splash-pad at AA Comeaux. We added new basketball goals, backboards and painted the courts at Parker Hebert Park on Graceland, and we are working on  plans for adding restrooms. I supported the renovations at AA Comeaux Park and helped secure funding for Pavilion renovations at McKinnley Park in District D.

Digital Update

Through my direction, the City of Abbeville has launched a new, user-friendly website that can assist citizens 24/7 with questions or concerns. We have also increased our social presence with the help of our Digital Communications team. I have also implemented Nixle text alerts to notify residents of emergencies within our community. I will continue to improve communications and strengthen community relations through the use of technology.

Upcoming Projects

Currently, we are working to complete sewer enhancements across the city. Plus, with the help of Vermilion Parish Police Jury we are planning on additional street repairs throughout District A.

Thank You Abbeville

I understand the significance that I will be the first elected, female Mayor, and I am very honored. I believe my success in this election was because of my devotion to our city, and hopefully my being a woman will only be a small part of my legacy. It is my intention to leave a much greater impact on our community through planning and hard work.

When I ran for council in 2018, It was my intention to serve District A and not to run for Mayor just four years later. My decision came after learning more about the operations of our city and identifying areas I would like to devote more attention. After Mayor Piazza confirmed he was not going to seek re-election, I had many conversations with my family, members of our community and fellow council members. I recognized that my community wanted me to step up, and that the timing was right for me to seek election to the role of mayor and devote my energy and attention to our city.

Ten years ago, I watched our young adults become very active in our community. I watched them create new organizations, volunteer their time, and actively seek to create a better quality of life for our community. I'm proud to have been part of that movement. But, in those ten years, I've also seen our businesses struggling, our very skilled younger generation leave for more prosperous areas, and I've seen COVID and other disasters threaten to set us back. Ten years ago, I didn't see myself being involved in politics, but people and communities evolve. I felt I could make a difference on council, and now I hope to inspire others to do the same through my position as Mayor of Abbeville.
